Opusmodus ist ein Programm zur computergestützten Instrumentalkomposition mit dem Ziel, zeitgenössischen Komponist*innen eine einfach zu erlernende integrierte Arbeitsumgebung zur Verfügung zu stellen. In der computergestützten Komposition (Computer-Assisted Composition, CAC) werden verschiedene musikalische Werkzeuge in einer Programmoberfläche miteinander verknüpft. Sie dienen zur Kreation und Analyse musikalischer Ideen und deren Übersetzung in traditionelle Notation. Ihre Anwendung für die zeitgenössische Komposition reicht von der einfachen Skizze (melodische Verläufe, Akkordverbindungen, rhythmische Modelle, etc.) bis zu großformatigen, kompositorischen Entwürfen z.B. in stochastischer Komposition (Xenakis), Klangflächenkomposition (Ligeti) spektraler Komposition (Murail, Haas) oder der Komposition mit Tonklassen (Boulez). Die besondere Stärke dieses Programms liegt darin, dass allen eingebauten Funktionen eine klar verständliche Notationssprache (OMN) zugrunde liegt, die bidirektional mit allen gängigen Notationsprogrammen (MuseScore, Sibelius, Dorico, etc.) kompatibel ist. Das heißt, Partituren mit allen dargestellten Parametern inklusive Mikrotönen können via MusicXML sowohl in Opusmodus zur Weiterverarbeitung geladen als auch von dort wieder exportiert werden.

Opusmodus is a computer-aided instrumental composition programme designed to provide contemporary composers with an easy-to-learn integrated working environment. In computer-assisted composition (CAC), various musical tools are linked together in a single programme interface. They are used to create and analyse musical ideas and translate them into traditional notation. Their application in contemporary composition ranges from simple sketches (melodic progressions, chord progressions, rhythmic models, etc.) to large-scale compositional drafts, e.g. in stochastic composition (Xenakis), soundscape composition (Ligeti), spectral composition (Murail, Haas) or composition with tone classes (Boulez). The particular strength of this program lies in the fact that all built-in functions are based on a clearly understandable notation language (OMN) that is bidirectionally compatible with all common notation programs (MuseScore, Sibelius, Dorico, etc.). This means that scores with all parameters displayed, including microtones, can be loaded via MusicXML into Opusmodus for further processing and exported from there again.

In this course, Opusmodus is presented in the form of a tutorial and learned through practical examples. The licences for the software are provided to students free of charge.
