This time the material doesn’t unfold. It folds back to its initial state. I recorded the piece in one take with the Doepfer analog modular system in room 4006, after rehearsing the idea. Later I spatialized it using a custom Pure Data patch for eight channels.

for 8.1 multi-channel setup
The listeners are invited into an acousmatic world of an ever-interrupted mechanical toybox. We find this box out in a field while being annoyed by digital birdies, we wind this somewhat otherworldly toybox and let it do its thing. As part of a series of etudes, this particular study focuses on the juxtapositio of extremely short and grained mechanical/digital elements interrupting each other, winding up the mechanism and observing the resolution of the gear through eerie melodies, glitches and crank noises that are let out by this mysterious box.
